No PCBs Detected in Soil Samples at Oak Hill’s Collins Park

Samples taken at Collins Park after residents voiced concerns

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Sampling and testing of soil at Collins Park in Oak Hill indicates no polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were detected at that location or at the location where the soil originated.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) initiated the sampling after area residents expressed concern that the soil was potentially contaminated by PCBs. The soil had been excavated during construction of a sewer line project at the Arbuckle Public Service District sewer plant site and then deposited at Collins Park.

The ten samples were collected by WVDEP and quickly analyzed to determine whether any of them contained PCBs. No PCBs were detected in the two samples taken at the Arbuckle PSD sewer plant site or the eight taken at Collins Park.
