Public Hearing Set on North Mountain Shale NPDES Draft Permit

 

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public hearing to hear comments on the draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit WV1023292 Modification No. 2 for North Mountain Shale, LLC of 154 Charles Town Rd., Martinsburg, WV 25401.

This is pursuant to Chapter 22, Article 11, Code of West Virginia and Title 47, Series 10, Section 12.3 of the West Virginia NPDES Regulations,

The draft permit covers discharges from a quarry site discharging treated and stormwater into unnamed tributaries of Mill Creek of Opequon Creek of Potomac River Drains. The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Musselman Middle School auditorium, located at 105 Pride Avenue in Bunker Hill.

Persons wishing to make comments on the draft permit are invited to be present or represented at the hearing to submit written and oral statements to the DEP. Oral statements will be heard; however, the submission of statements in writing may be required. All comments will be considered before a final decision is made on the WVNPDES application.

A copy of the Article 11/WVNPDES application, draft permit and fact sheet (if required) will be available for inspection and copies can be obtained during normal business hours by contacting the NPDES Permit Supervisor at the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Mining and Reclamation regional office located at 47 School Street in Philippi.
