WVDEP’s Watershed Assessment Branch accepting water quality data for report

The Division of Water and Waste Management’s Watershed Assessment Branch is accepting water quality data that has been gathered from state streams by individuals, groups or agencies from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2013. The data will be used for the 2014 Integrated Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Report, which is compiled every two years as required by Clean Water Act Sections 303(d) and 305(b). The deadline to submit data is October 18, 2013.
There are certain requirements for how the data is to be prepared for use in the report, which can be downloaded from the DEP’s website at www.dep.wv.gov/WWE/watershed/IR/Pages/303d_305b.aspx.
In addition to a data submission form, there is information regarding laboratory certification, possible uses of submitted data and sample documentation. If the data was subject to a quality assurance/quality control plan, DEP requests that the plan be submitted along with the data. An example of a QA/QC plan can be found on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website at http://www.epa.gov/quality/qs-docs/g5-final.pdf.
Data previously provided to DEP for use in the 2010 or 2012 Integrated Reports does not have to be resubmitted.
Data may be submitted electronically to Steve Young, stephen.a.young@wv.gov, or Chris Daugherty, chris.a.daugherty@wv.gov.
Although electronic data submission is encouraged and preferred in Microsoft Excel, non-electronic submissions (hard copies) may be sent to DEP at the Division of Water and Waste Management, Attn: Steve Young, 601 57th St. S.E., Charleston, WV 25304.
