West Virginia Water Festival Curriculum
Note: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all water festivals for the fall of 2020 have been
cancelled.
WV Project WET, and New River Gorge National River partnered to develop the West Virginia Water Festival
Curriculum. The curriculum is suitable for fifth grade classrooms but can be adjusted for third through sixth.
It is composed of seven different lesson plans that align with hands-on stations at our water festival events.
An instructional video is paired with each plan to assist teachers with e-learning. Each lesson plan includes
the following components, listed below:
- Pre/post quizzes created through the onlin quick platform, Quizizz.
- YouTube videos to reinforce main objectives.
- Step-by-step instruction for a warm-up and wrap-up activity, and in-classroom and online extensions.
- Correlated to NGSS and Common Core Standards.
- Suggested books to enhance learning experience.
Attached is an information packet containing curriculum details and how educators can sign-up for a mini training
session. Each session will last approximately 30 minutes, with additional time for questions at the end. In the mini
training sessions we will review how to access the WV Water Festival Curriculum and the seven lesson plans, review
NGSS and common core standards, discuss how the lesson plans tie in with our hands-on water festivals events, and
inform educators of additional resources. Attending a session is not mandatory, but it is encouraged. Information on
how educators can access the curriculum without attending a session is listed on page two of the PDF. Click-Here to view a YouTube video of a mini-training.
