Annual cleanup event sponsored by WVDEP, WVDOH

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Applications are now available for the 2018 West Virginia Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup.

The event, sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and Division of Highways, is being held the first two weeks of April.

The Make It Shine program will provide resources such as cleanup materials, waste hauling, and landfill fees to community groups volunteering to conduct litter cleanups in state streams or public lands.

More than 5,300 West Virginians took part in last year’s Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup. Those volunteers removed nearly 85 tons of litter, including over 2,900 tires from the state’s landscape.

The application deadline for those groups wishing to participate this year has been extended to March 9. Applications are available by contacting the Make It Shine Program Coordinator Terry Carrington at 1-800-322-5530 or via email at Terry.R.Carrington@wv.gov. Applications are also available online on the WVDEP website.
