Citizen Groups Honored at Annual Watershed Celebration Day

 

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Oct. 29, 2018) – More than 20 West Virginia watershed groups were honored at the 20th Annual Watershed Celebration Day at Adventures on the Gorge in Fayette County. 

The groups received a total of $7,000 in awards for their efforts, with Friends of the Cheat winning the Watershed of the Year award and a $5,000 prize. 

The list of award recipients includes:

• Buckhannon River Watershed Association: $100
• Buffalo Creek Watershed Improvement Association: $100
• Coal River Group: $100
• Davis Creek Watershed Association: $100
• Friends of Deckers Creek: $100
• Forks of Coal State Natural Area: $100
• Fourpole Creek Watershed Association: $100
• Friends of Blackwater: $100
• Friends of the Cheat: $100
• Friends of the Hughes River Watershed Association: $100
• Greenbrier River Watershed Association: $100
• Guyandotte Water Trail Alliance: $100
• Mill Creek Watershed Association: $100
• Morris Creek Watershed Association: $100 
• Paint Creek Watershed Association: $100
• Piney Creek Watershed Association: $100
• Save the Tygart: $100
• Sleepy Creek Watershed Association: $100
• Tadpole Project of the Coal River Mountain Watch: $100
• Warms Springs Watershed Association: $100 

The awards were sponsored by Dominion Energy, TransCanada, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, West Virginia Conservation Districts, Pies and Pints, and Appalachian Stream Restoration.
