Dominion Transmission to address environmental issues at Tank Farm

4/29/2011

Dominion Transmission Inc. has submitted an application to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to remediate a Wetzel County parcel located in Hastings.

Dominion is working with the DEP to address environmental conditions at the Hastings Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Tank Farm, which is located along state Route 20 in Hastings. The main Chemicals of Concern (COC) at the site are petroleum products used by the former operators at the facility to produce gasoline. Additional COCs may be identified as the investigation continues.

The DEP’s Office of Environmental Remediation and Dominion are negotiating a voluntary remediation agreement, which includes provisions for identifying human health and ecological risks associated with current and potential uses of the site, to establish appropriate cleanup standards. The agreement also includes provisions for additional clean up or remediation actions should they be necessary to meet those standards. A final report will be submitted to the OER for review to confirm that the work meets all applicable remediation standards.

Questions may be directed to James Gaston, project manager; WVDEP, DLR/OER, 131-A Peninsula St., Wheeling, WV., 26003, (304) 238-1220 ext. 3515; or Mathew C. Wright, licensed remediation specialist, Triad Engineering, 4980 Teays Valley Rd., Scott Depot, WV., 25560, (304)755-0721.
