Students Attending WVDEP’s Junior Conservation Camp In Jackson County

RIPLEY, W.Va. (June 19, 2018) – Nearly 150 students aged 11 to 14 from more than 25 counties across the state will be at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Jackson County this week for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s (WVDEP) annual Junior Conservation Camp.

Junior Conservation Camp began as a program of the Division of Natural Resources (DNR) in 1980, but is now administered by the WVDEP’s Youth Environmental Program.

At camp students will learn fishing, canoeing, wilderness first aid, and other outdoors lessons. DNR Conservation Officers will be at camp to teach ATV and side-by-side safety and DNR Wildlife experts will teach campers about the effort to protect black bears.
