The WVDEP is holding a public meeting to provide information, answer questions, and accept official comments related to the Certificate of Approval applications received by the Dam Safety Office in regard to potential modifications or repairs of the Upper Grave Creek No. 7, 8, and 9 flood control dams as a result of potential subsidence impact from subsurface mining operations being performed by Marshall County Coal Resources, Inc.
The Upper Grave Creek No. 7, 8, and 9 dams are situated across adjacent unnamed tributaries of Grave Creek, approximately 1.5 to 2.0 miles east of U.S. Route 250 and north of County Route 25 in Cameron, Marshall County.
The issuance of a COA provides a legal measure by which the responsible parties are held accountable for any damages to the dams caused by their actions.
Please note that the Certificate of Approval application received by the Dam Safety Office does not involve the review or approval process to extract the minerals beneath the affected Upper Grave dams.
