DEP to stream Surface Mine Board hearing live

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) plans to live stream the Aug. 11 Surface Mine Board’s hearing regarding the appeal of Keystone Industries’ KD No. 2 mine permit over its “Environment Matters” YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/WVEnvironment and Google+ page: https://plus.google.com/110674270939790188292/posts.

“Because there’s so much interest in this hearing and because of the limited seating available in the hearing room, we wanted to make it available to as wide an audience as possible,” said Wendy Radcliff, the DEP’s Environmental Advocate. The Environmental Advocate serves as a liaison between the DEP and individuals and groups concerned about the environment.

“We’re excited about using the technology to help keep folks better informed and hope to be able to use it again in the future for other public hearings.”

Environment Matters is the DEP’s monthly public affairs program. It’s produced by the DEP in house and airs on various cable TV systems across the state on the Library Channel, in addition to YouTube.

The Aug. 11 hearing is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and the live stream should begin shortly before that. Live programming may be interrupted from time to time during breaks in the hearing, which is anticipated to last most of the day.
