Nearly $66,000 in REAP Litter Control Grants Awarded

 

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) has selected the recipients of this year’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) Litter Control Matching grants. The 24 organizations – solid waste authorities, county commissions, and municipalities – were approved for grants totaling $65,662.23.

The grant recipients are:

Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority                                                 $3,000.00
The funding will be used for a billboard campaign for the county litter program.

Boone County Solid Waste Authority                                                     $3,000.00
The funding will be used for cameras for the county litter program.

Town of Burnsville                                                                               $3,000.00
The funding will be used for a backhoe, dump truck, fuel, diesel, dumpster
and landfill fees for the town cleanup.

Capitol Conservation District (Kanawha County)                                     $3,000.00
The funding will be used for construction of a mobile education trailer, including a logo
and graphics.

Clay County Commission                                                                      $3,000.00
The funding will be used for cameras and accessories for the county litter
program.

Town of Delbarton                                                                                $3,000.00
The funding will be used for supplies and garbage removal for a town cleanup.

Fayette County Solid Waste Authority                                                     $1,500.00
The funding will be used for website development, website maintenance and
“litter free” logo development for a county-wide litter campaign.

City of Grafton                                                                                     $3,000.00
The funding will be used for landfill fees for a town cleanup.

Jackson County Solid Waste Authority                                                    $3,000.00
The funding will be used for a county-wide litter education campaign and
cleanup.

Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority                                                   $1,165.13
The funding will be used for bug spray, gloves and bags for litter pickups.

Kanawha County Commission                                                                $3,000.00
The funding will be used for overtime for off-duty deputies to issue litter
citations and work cleanup events.

City of Kenova                                                                                      $3,000.00
The funding will be used for educational materials, plastic trash bags, metal
trash receptacles and a contract for the razing of structures.

Town of Masontown                                                                                $3,000.00
The funding will be used for structure razing.

Mercer County Commission                                                                    $3,000.00
The funding will be used for litter control materials and supplies.

City of Milton                                                                                         $3,000.00
The funding will be used for structure razing.

Town of Newburg                                                                                   $3,000.00
The funding will be used for structure razing.

New Martinsville Parks and Recreation                                                     $2,057.10
The funding will be used for plastic liners, steel dome tops and trash
receptacles.

Putnam County Solid Waste Authority                                                      $3,000.00
The funding will be used for a demolition contractor for the razing of
buildings.

Town of Reedsville                                                                                 $3,000.00
The funding will be used for the razing of buildings.

Region VIII Solid Waste Authority                                                            $2,727.50
To fund cameras and accessories for the ongoing litter program.

Wayne County Commission                                                                     $3,000.00
The funding will be used for litter control officer wages.

Webster County Commission                                                                   $3,000.00
The funding will be used for litter control officer wages.

Wood County Solid Waste Authority                                                         $1,212.50
The funding will be used for pick sticks, gloves and trash bags for
the ongoing litter program.

Wyoming County Solid Waste Authority                                                    $3,000.00
The funding will be used for fuel, vehicle maintenance and uniforms for the
litter control officer.

Funding for the litter control program is generated through Legislative Rule §22-15A-4, which states: “For unlawful disposal of litter, the circuit clerk shall deposit 50 percent of all civil penalties into the Litter Control Fund.”
